An 8.6 tells you a hotel pleased most people. It doesn't tell you whether the walls are thin, whether the air conditioning copes in August, or whether the pool is quiet at 8am.

Hotel++ starts from your list instead of the average. The same hotel can be an easy yes for one traveller and clearly wrong for another — we'd rather say so plainly than hand you a number.
